Frequently Asked Questions

How does OkPicture find duplicate photos?

OkPicture analyzes your photos directly on your device using perceptual hashing — a technique that compares image content rather than just file names or sizes. This means it can detect near-identical shots, burst photos, and screenshots saved multiple times, even if they were taken seconds apart.

Is my data safe? Do you upload my photos?

Your photos never leave your device. OkPicture operates entirely offline — no servers, no uploads, no cloud processing. All analysis happens locally using your iPhone's own processing power. We have no access to your photos or any data about you.

Why does OkPicture need access to my photo library?

Photo library access is required to display your photos inside the app, identify duplicates and similar images, and delete the photos you choose to remove. We only use this permission for these core functions — never for data collection or tracking.

What happens when I delete photos in the app?

When you confirm a deletion in OkPicture, the photos are moved to the iOS Recently Deleted album, where they stay for 30 days before being permanently removed. This gives you a safety net to recover anything deleted by mistake.

Can I recover photos I deleted through OkPicture?

Yes. Deleted photos go to the native iOS Recently Deleted album (in the Photos app under Albums → Recently Deleted) and can be restored within 30 days. After 30 days iOS permanently erases them.

Does OkPicture work without an internet connection?

Yes — fully. OkPicture has no network dependency. Scanning, reviewing, and deleting all work completely offline.

How long does a scan take?

Most libraries scan in under 30 seconds. Very large libraries (10,000+ photos) may take a minute or two on older devices. The app will show a progress indicator while scanning.

Does OkPicture slow down my phone?

The initial scan uses your device's CPU briefly, but OkPicture is designed to be lightweight. Once the scan completes, the app runs smoothly even on older iPhones.

Troubleshooting

OkPicture can't access my photos

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos, find OkPicture, and select "Full Access". Without full access the app cannot scan your library.

The app isn't detecting duplicates I know exist

Make sure Photos permission is set to "Full Access" (not "Limited Access"). Limited access only shows selected photos, so duplicates in the rest of your library won't be visible to the app.

The scan seems stuck or is taking very long

Close the app and reopen it to restart the scan. If your library is very large (20,000+ items), give it a few extra minutes. Make sure your device has sufficient free storage — at least a few hundred MB — for the app to work properly.

Photos deleted in OkPicture still appear in my library

iOS moves deleted photos to the Recently Deleted album rather than removing them immediately. Open the Photos app, go to Albums → Recently Deleted, and empty it there if you want them removed right away.
